In the work developed for reFormat, On Thawing Ground, Irene Stracuzzi explores the complex issue of permafrost thawing in the Arctic region, and its dramatic repercussions for the global climate. Blurring the boundaries between geological past and imminent future, the project studies and visualises the information stored in the frozen ground before it transforms and disappears forever.

Irene Stracuzzi (1992, Italy) is a graphic designer and researcher based in Amsterdam. Specialising in graphic design, art direction and information design, she works independently as well as collaboratively for clients in the fields of art and culture. Her research practice aims at translating complex findings into accessible visual formats, reflecting on the role of design as a critical tool to share knowledge.
